Women in managerial positions; A day in the life of a quality assurance manager

The movement of getting women to join and have equal rights in the workforce is an on-going and progressive one. Women globally are making waves and taking on higher level positions in orgnisations.

This is especially true in Africa, a slowly but surely evolving patriarchal society that is beginning to warmly acknowledge and embrace the unique contributions that women have to offer in the workforce. According to Times, South Africa is one of the countries with the highest proportions of women in senior roles, with their women comprising of 30 percent of senior management positions.

Guinness Nigeria is an organisation that believes in gender equality and this can be reaffirmed by the number of women found working at different levels of their organisation. In order to celebrate women in managerial roles doing a great job, we decided to shed light on Henrietta Udolisa, a Quality Assurance Manager at Guinness Nigeria and what it is that she does on a daily basis.

Udolisa graduated with a BSc in Industrial Chemistry and has had previous experience as a consumer care manager before joining the Guinness Nigeria team as a quality assurance manager. She said: “Working with a company like Guinness Nigeria who takes quality so seriously has really helped me to grow and develop professionally and as an individual.”

Her primary objective every day is to monitor the quality process from the incipient stages, right up until the final stages of production. Some of these stages include ensuring there are no defects in the raw materials, the brewing is done well and packaging is done within given specifications. Breaking the quality assurance process into stages ensures that if there are any irregularities, they can be addressed and resolved before moving to the next phase.

As a result of Udolisa’s educational background and experience, she is able to realise and appreciate quality from the perspective of the consumer. It is not easy taking on a role which entails robust amounts of responsibility, however, this super woman has managed to do a commendable job. Next time you open a Guinness Nigeria product, remember there’s a woman out there breaking boundaries to ensure the quality of your product is world class!
