It was indeed a day of happiness in Bauchi state, when team work between the Bauchi state government and the security led to rescue of 450 teenage girls from human traffickers.
At a part of a briefing to celebrate the International Day of the Girl-Child which was October 11, 2016, a member of Bauchi state’s High Level Women Advocates (HILWA) disclosed this successful rescue.
HILWA which is a non-governmental organization organised the briefing in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and UNICEF, in Bauchi.
Kalimatu Abdulkadir, who is also a staff of the ministry of education said the ministry of education had received information that teenage girls had been brought in from Zamfara, Jigawa and Sokoto and moved to Abuja in two batches.

She said: “Investigations by security agents in the state revealed that some persons, who engaged in child trafficking, brought some girls from three northern states of Zamfara, Sokoto and Jigawa, into the state.
“The girls were camped at an undisclosed location in the state and were dispatched in batches to Abuja. Some of the girls were taken through Kano, while the remaining went through Bauchi. They took the routes to avoid detection by security agents on the highways.”
According to Vanguard, Kalimatu said security agents were however able to successfully track the movement of the girls in Abuja, and subsequently organize their rescue. The girls were then reunited with their family.
In a related development, the Nigerian army killed at least four suspected kidnappers after invading their camp in Bauchi state.
Colonel Usman said the suspected criminals were killed as they headed for another round of kidnapping activities.
