The Amalgamated Union of National Cattle and Foodstuff Dealers and Association of Nigeria on Thursday, October 27, threatened to begin on an indefinite strike action over extortion by Nigerian security operatives
Punch reports that the association’s acting national chairman Hamman-Jalo Hamman-Jam said members of the group have suffered immense extortion from security operatives in Nigeria.
Hamman-Jam said the association was also tired of the recurring situation.

The acting chairman said, members of the union have overtime being forced to either part with different amount of money – N300,000 to N500,000 per truck trip – at various check points across the country especially highways.
He also said these operatives, stop any truck moving cattle from the northern area of Nigeria to the East and extort huge amount from them.
Hamman-Jam said: “We have complained to appropriate authorities concerned over the high level of extortion of money from our members by security agents.”
“Again, we, the Amalgamated Union of National Cattle and Foodstuff Dealers Association of Nigeria, hereby, call on the Federal, state governments, and other authorities concerned to urgently look into the matter and address it.
“And if the situation continues without any action from government, the union have no other choice rather to embark on indefinite strike.”

Hamman-Jam, decrying the situation said those who resisted such extortion were always maltreated by the security operatives.
He further said the association would continue to support security operatives in maintaining peace and order across Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has condemned statements by Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose over attacks by Fulani herdsmen in the state.
The FCT minister Muhammad Bello issued the order after he met with members of the Myetti cattle breeders association.
