The chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin, has reacted to the speculation that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is planning to change its name or form a new party ahead of future elections in the country.
Walid, according to a report by The Punch, described such plan a disaster for the country’s political development, declaring further that posterity would not forgive any member of the party who joins in destroying it or associating with others to form a new party.
There had been speculations that some aggrieved members of the party were planning to form a new one while others were suggesting a change of name.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, the report quoted Jibrin as saying members were working seriously to reposition the party ahead of 2019, denying the allegation by the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction that the Ahmed Makarfi’s group was planning to form another party with aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I wish to say authoritatively that there is no plan to dump the PDP as it was never discussed or any discussion taken by any organ of the party.
“If we do that, posterity will not forgive us because the PDP is already a household name, dearly loved by every household in Nigeria.

“Posterity will judge any one with the ambition to kill the PDP; for his ambition is quite contrary to the hard work of our founding fathers and mothers, who worked so hard to produce the brand PDP.
“Changing its name and brand will be a disaster for Nigeria’s political development, especially when we cast our mind back to the hard work and foresight of our founding fathers and mothers, who came up with the brand name, PDP, which is fully accepted and cherished by Nigerians,” Jibrin said.
