Four years on, Bukola Saraki remembers late father Olusola

Senate President Bukola Saraki is today, November 14 holding a remembrance ceremony in hour of his late father and top politician Olusola Saraki who died four years ago in 2012.

Saraki revealed in a short statement on his Facebook page today that “a prayer session will hold in our family home in Ilofa road to be attended by family members and friends led by our matriarch, Chief (Mrs) Florence Saraki.”

Olusola Saraki was born on the 17th of May, 1933 at Ilorin, Kwara state. His mother was from Iseyin in Oyo State and his father was from Ilorin. His paternal ancestors were Fulanis who came from Mali about 150 to 200 years earlier.

Olusola was educated at Eko Boys High School and attended the University of London and St George’s Hospital Medical School, London.  He worked as a medical officer at the General Hospital, Lagos and the Creek Hospital, Lagos.

Olusola joined politics when he ran in the 1964 parliamentary election for Ilorin as an independent, but failed to win. After the election, he returned to his medical practice in Lagos, only returning to party-politics in 1978/79.

He was also a one-time leader of the Arewa Consultative Forum and national leader and Board of Trustee (BoT) chair of the All Peoples’ Party (APP)

In his days, Olusola was a revered politician and a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before his death.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki met on Friday, November 11 at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja to reportedly discuss about the presidency’s $29.96billion loan request.

It was a close-door meeting and held inside the president’s office. The report said the meeting lasted for about one hour.
