Not fewer than six people were injured and 30 vehicles vandalized. Policemen attached to Maroko police station were said to have saved the situation, if not it would have to the killing of many people during the crisis.
Police arrested 28 motorcycle riders involved in the incident.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the drivers would spend about N10 million to put their vehicles in order.
The chairman of the of the association, Mr. Jimoh Yakubu said: “We have incurred a debt of about N10 million to repair the vandalized buses.”
“The okada riders have turned us to debtors. Where do you expect us to get such huge amount of money? How much are we making in the estate? Government should come to our aid and save us from the hands of these foreigners who are bent of destroying our daily bread.”
He said it seemed there was end to the fracas as the motorcycle operators made another attempt to attack the drivers yesterday.
Yakubu showered praises on policemen for their prompt intervention. He said on Friday, 28, 2014, motorcycle operators, members of the drivers’ union (NURTW) and men of the Nigerian Police Force in the estate engaged in a free-for-all.
He said the issue of banning motorcyclists in the estate had been on for close to a year now, when the estate community development association told the okada riders not operate in the estate any more, which they vehemently opposed.
