The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples’
Democratic Party (PDP) has said the party will not stop tolerating
former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, despite Obasanjo’s constant criticism of the party, they would not reprimand him.
Metuh explained that the PDP would continue to tolerate him because of the respect they have for him, Daily Sun reports.
“We have tremendous respect for him, our party brought him to reckoning. We have ruled for 16 years with achievements and some of them made under Chief Obasanjo administration.
“So, we won’t accuse him in public. We appreciate him and we want his support,” he said.
Speaking on the recent reduction in pump price of petroleum products, the PDP national secretary said it was purely an economic decision informed by the fall in crude oil in the international oil market.
He debunked reports that the Federal Government took the decision to win the sympathy of Nigerians ahead next month’s elections.
Elder statesman and a former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark had earlier urged the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to dismiss Obasanjo from the party.

Obasanjo has been criticising Jonathan and the PDP for sometime
now. At a recent session with market women in the South-West zone at his
Abeokuta residence in Ogun State capital, he accused the PDP-led Federal Government of squandering the nation’s foreign reserves.
The former president had since refused to endorse Jonathan’s
re-election bid, saying he promised to serve only one term. His
rejection took a turn for the worse when he recently declared that he
was for “Anything But Jonathan” (ABJ) to several of his aides following their supposed peace meeting.
